“Some youth academies worry about winning, we worry about education”.

PROGRAM FOCUS

Rosemere High School (RHS) Soccer Concentration Program aims to produce honest, hardworking players on organised teams who can play dynamic, passing soccer. Rosemere High School’s soccer program is focused as a performance and development program and has transitioned away from a participation program.

RHS PREFORMANCE & PLAY FOCUS

RHS Soccer Program and teams should be constantly looking to break through defensive lines or ‘overload’ in the opposition half of the field with the direct aim of creating goal scoring opportunities through quick passing.

At RHS we will ideally play a 4-4-2 diamond/ 4-5-1 formation, however, it is expected that players who are recruited and developed by RHS are adaptive and flexible and can play a number of systems as and when necessary.

OFFENSIVE PLAY

When the team is in ball possession we will make the pitch as big as possible by ensuring there is suitable length, depth and width of the field within the team. We aim to play through the thirds quickly and positively and keep safe possession when there is no opportunity to play forward. All players are expected to be able to deal with the ball under pressure and as a consequence are expected to constantly provide good angles and distances of support in front and behind the ball. In the opposition half, incisiveness is the focus, we aim to break opposition lines or create overloads in wide and central areas with every intention of creating goal scoring opportunities.

DEFENSIVE PLAY

Out of possession RHS Soccer Program and teams will be characterised by their relentless defensive organisation and counter attacking play. Players will be encouraged to win possession back at the earliest possible opportunity, however, game intelligence and concentration is required at all times. Players will be expected to recover to team shape and assess whether they press the ball or drop off to defend and deny space in between our lines. The RHS Soccer Program believes that very player has a responsibility when out of possession and should be confident in 1v1 defending situations when the occasion calls.

RHS STUDENT-ATHLETE

A RHS Soccer Program Student-Athlete and player will have: honesty, a high work ethic, a confidence in his own abilities and of those who he plays with, a passion for the program, the school soccer team and most of all a passion for academics and life at Rosemere High School.

This soccer philosophy has enabled our school to win championships at soccer indoor and more recently the GMAA division one soccer outdoor championship.
